Title: Windows Server Engineer
Position Type: Contract
Location: Chicago, IL (Need local and US Citizen only)
Duration: Long term contract

 

 

Qualifications:

·         7 years minimum IT experience

·         4 years minimum experience in an enterprise server environment with both administration and problem resolution of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and/or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 required.

·         Windows Server 2003/2008 Active Directory administration including DNS expertise required

·         MSCE on Windows Server 2003 minimum certification or 4 years current experience. (MCITP on Windows Server 2008 certification a requirement within 6 months)

·         4 years of Exchange 2003/2007/2010 administration experience in an enterprise environment with a minimum of 3000 accounts considered a strong plus.

·         SQL 2005/2008 DBA experience with a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist a plus (exams 70-432 or 70-431) considered a plus.

·         Systems management application (LANDesk, SCOM or SCCM) experience a plus

·         Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 4.5/5.x and/or XenApp experience a plus.

·         NetBackup experience a plus

·         SAN storage management a plus

·         Professional attitude, appearance and communication skills required

Roles:

The engineer has full responsibility for operational and troubleshooting and engineering support of Windows servers and supported applications.

 

Responsibilities:

The Windows Server Engineer is responsible for the following primary elements of server Problem Resolution:

 

·         Keeping all Microsoft file and mail servers running at all times

·         Research and apply service packs, hot fixes and security updates to servers as needed.

·         Perform and monitor server backups.

·         Perform server administration functions such as user/group administration, scripting, group policy development and implementation.

·         Analyzing file server performance data when needed.

·         Establishing detection of incipient hardware component failure, including network components using tools such as Service Center Operations Manger, Compaq’s Insight and Client’s Open Manage

·         Establishing automated corrective action for server problems where possible.

·         The Windows Server Engineer has ownership for resolving problems handed down from the Help Desk, Level 2 or Desk Side team and enlists support, as necessary, from other individuals on the Windows Server team having special expertise.

These responsibilities include the following:

o    Problem Resolution? solving problems that affects the customer.

o    Root Cause Analysis? determining the cause of a problem and providing a documented solution.

o    Fault Management? solving faults that could affect the customer, or taking the actions necessary to resolve faults identified in the Root Cause Analysis Process.

o    Assist with Client server connectivity issues.

o    Assist with Network traffic issues.

o    After hours support for server systems to be performed on as a rotation of LAN team engineers.
