Senior Software Engineer: C++

Responsibilities:

The Avistar engineering team is looking for highly qualified and experienced software professionals, to design and develop software for the guts of our video-conferencing endpoint. The work involves building the lower-level component, namely MediaEngine, which does the media processing and network I/O, while providing an API to support quick application and UI development. The ideal candidate is an energetic, proven contributor with experience in the analysis, design, and implementation of object oriented distributed systems implemented in C++. S/he will have a demonstrable track record as a senior contributor and as someone who can take ownership of the design and development effort. S/he will have experience and passion for developing cutting-edge products, using technologies related to voice and video over IP, standards for compression, packetization, and audio/ video processing. S/he will be responsible for maintaining the platform independence of our implementation, and the portability of the API, whilst maintaining interoperability at the protocol level.

Must-have qualifications and skills:

• Minimum of a B.S. degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or in a related field

• Eight or more years of experience in C++, with exposure to object oriented design

• Experience with network programming for distributed applications (TCP, UDP, sockets, etc.)

• Exposure to designing and implementing asynchronous API

• Excellent verbal and written communication

• Experience in at least one of the following areas:

• Implementing protocol stacks for signaling & session management, such as SIP and HTTP

• Media packetization & transmission over IP networks, using RTP or similar protocols

• Exposure to writing software for audio/ video processing, capture and rendering

You will be a core member of a small team ensuring that an existing product has been successfully ported and integrated with new hardware devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•          Work closely with software developers to unit test their software updates with new devices

•          Interface with an offshore QA team to ensure complete overall test coverage, with a focus on integration testing with third-party hardware and software

•          Re-run existing test plans, but under different OS variations on different desktop hardware/ devices

•          Modify and enhance the test plans as needed to take into account any peculiarities identified with third-party hardware and software

•          Work directly with developers to reproduce problems identified on specific devices and software, so that they can debug and fix them

 

Qualifications and Skills:

Minimum

•          Experience with hands-on testing of client-server, or peer-to-peer, distributed software

•          At least 5 years of software quality assurance experience

•          At least 3 years of experience testing distributed software applications

•          Exposure to testing the integration between systems and components that are produced within the organization and outside

•          Experience with analyzing requirements, and in turn, writing, reviewing and executing test plans and test cases, to cover the requirements

•          Experience with working in geographically distributed teams

•          Experience with bug-tracking systems such as JIRA

•          Familiarity with configuration management systems such as Subversion

•          Excellent (and proven) written communication skills

•          Quick learner with abilities to adapt to new tasks as needed

Preferred

•          Experience with networked video applications, using protocols like SIP, H.323, RTP, MPEG-4, etc.

•          Ability to analyze network protocol traffic using tools like WireShark (aka ethereal)

•          Experience with Citrix desktop and application virtualization technologies, for remote execution of software, and Windows desktop access from terminals running Windows, Linux or Mac OSX

•          Experience with other virtualized environments similar to VMware

•          Experience with thin client terminal devices from vendors like WYSE or HP

•          Network configuration background including knowledge of DNS, DHCP, etc.

•          Exposure to test automation will be a plus

Education
