Title: Java/Perl/Unix Developer
Location: NYC, NY
Duration: 6 months
Seeking an experienced Java/Perl/Unix Developer. The successful candidate(s) will become an integral part of a dynamic team tasked with transitioning Global Fixed Income accounts onto the new accounting platform. This individual may be responsible for developing software that will support front and back office processes by creating straight-through processing efficiency, extracting and converting historical & performance date and developing fixes for production related issues. The candidate must have a background demonstrating successful software delivery and be able to interact with end-users and team members. Provided solutions must integrate well with the overall infrastructure and environment. This position will be responsible for contributing to the strategic architecture necessary to provide cohesive solutions in a rapid, consistent fashion.
Responsibilities:
- Work in a structured environment to develop products using standard software engineering practices
- Develop software to support portfolio accounting of various products in the investment business
- Work with end-users to define requirements and deliver solutions
- Document products for end-user consumption and maintenance efficiency
- Guide and mentor other developers in project work
- QA the work of other team members and complete test cycles to ensure production readiness
- Analyze requirements to design highly usable and efficient solutions
Qualifications:
- 5 years' experience in Java, Perl and Unix shell scripting
- 5 years' experience in SQL and Oracle 11.5 - designing, organizing, and consuming
- Experience in real time messaging (e.g., IBM MQ)
- Experience in XML and XLST
- Professional development experience with significant projects
- Capable of working independently with demonstrated attention to detail
- Hard working and self-motivated, requiring minimum supervision
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- History of projects requiring application and system integration
Ideal Candidate Would Have:
- Finance background with an understanding of investment products and accounting
- Solid background in trading or brokerage
- Strong SQL and other query capabilities
- Strong PERL skills
- MS Windows skills & Unix
Business Experience & Education:
- BS, MS in Computer Science or similar discipline
- Experience in portfolio accounting, reconciliation and client reporting, fixed income
