Communications Solutions Architecture Engineer (contractor)

JOB TITLE: Communications Solutions Architecture Engineer

Duration: 12+ months

Location: Center City, Philadelphia

 

POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose of position):

The Communications Solutions Architecture Engineer is the lead engineer in defining new service and product solutions for the Residential Communications Market segment. The solutions architect takes on Product/Service requirements and creates the overall solution architecture, technical requirements and specific implementation designs. This engineer works with the rest of the Client team from the ideation stage to market deployment making sure the overall service/product needs are met within the scheduled time and within budget.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Lead and serve as the technical owner of specific service solution maintaining good understanding of all aspects of the solution including configuration, provisioning, monitoring, testing, feature operation, redundancy and reliability models.

·         Interface with the Business Unit, CDV Operations, Product Marketing, Systems Engineering, Technology Lab to review new product/service requests and applications to define technical requirements and implementation designs.

·         Maintain an understanding of market and product developments and external standards to understand their use and applicability to new service concepts.

·         Work with other Client organizations to define operational model and tools to be use to monitor and maintain the new service/product offerings.

·         Work with the vendor/element engineers to make sure service solution can be implemented efficiently.

·         Report on technical issues related to the service/product and follow up with other organizations to make sure all technical issues have been resolved.

·         Work with Project Manager to define and maintain the end-to-end project schedule for a specific service or product.

·         Produce and stand-up prototyped solutions in the lab or field as proof of concept activities or to verify configurations produced for the Implementation designs.

·         Maintain professionalism while performing all job duties. Accept and act on all escalations within area of responsibility

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Provide support on estimations and project initiation request.

·         Investigate and provide technical solutions and workarounds that impact a service/product offering.

·         Provide support to Product Engineers and Quality Assurance to make sure key functionality is delivered and tested as required for the service/product offering.

·         Coordinate with IT and Systems Management that linked in systems are defined, developed, configured and deployed as required for the service/product offering.

·         Provide execution support function for Test and Turn-up to ensure new equipment and designs are accurately tested and brought in to service.

·         Other job duties include but are not limited to: Standards documentation concerning process, procedure, design and implementation of network and design solutions along with equipment installation, maintenance and management.

·         Additional assignments and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.

 

COMMUNICATION AND MANUAL SKILLS:

·         Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.

·         Must be familiar with voice, data, and equipment engineering technologies and have an advanced knowledge of telecommunications equipment, terminology, and standard practices and procedures.

·         A working knowledge of PC based software applications including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Visio.

·         Must possess a high degree of self-motivation and have a demonstrated history of independent decision making.

·         Must possess effective and proven organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

·         Must possess exemplary customer interfacing skills and must exhibit these skills during all interactions with internal and external customers.

·         Must be able to apply technical expertise to identify, develop, document, and implement plans required to satisfy both internal and external customer needs. This includes gathering required data and other pertinent information for accurate record keeping.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Experience and capabilities must have; Essential to begin job):

·         Minimum of 2 years experience in telecommunications in Lab, CLEC, IXC or ILEC environment.

·         Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Services or Networking Services.

·         Strong technical skills with switching systems and electronics.

·         Must have detailed knowledge of public switching and transport network including traditional class 5 switching, soft switching, sonnet and fiber transports along packet based transport technologies.

·         Must be familiar with voice, data, and equipment engineering technologies and have an advanced knowledge of telecommunications equipment, terminology, and standard practices and procedures.

·         Possess and maintain a working knowledge of all facets of network elements, design and switching.

·         Must possess some knowledge of order provisioning.

·         Must have vast knowledge of basic Traffic/AMA principles for both voice and data networks.

·         Have a vast knowledge of telecommunication verbiage, CLLI Code, DSLAM, LERG, LEC tariffs, Facility entrance, long distance principles and Internet Technology.

·         Proven experience with effectively working within a production environment to achieve both operational results as well as maintaining a healthy team atmosphere

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Experience and capabilities preferred buy not required):

·         Minimum 7 – 10 years telecom experience in Lab, CLEC. IXC or ILEC environment

·         Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Services or Networking Services

·         Prior Network Engineering and Operations network management experience

·         Knowledge of CAPEX and Expense budgets for lab equipment

·         Some understanding of workforce management concepts
