Duration: 1+ year
Location: Kansas
SQL Server DBA Responsibilities
Installation, configuration, and upgrade of SQL Server and related products.
Creating and managing databases
Data modeling and Database design to create an efficient physical database design
Performance of administrative tasks, performance, high availability, optimizing the database
Responsible for the implementation of backup, recovery and restore processes to meet business needs
Capacity planning, growth and changes
Implement and maintain database security, assign login accounts to database, authentication mode, assigning permissions
Manage security with views and stored procedures
Implementing routine SQL Server administrative tasks and automating routine maintenance tasks
Performance tuning
Performance monitoring
Troubleshooting SQL Server automation
Tools for monitoring SQL Server
Tools for importing and exporting data in SQL Server
Introduction to and transforming data with Data Transformation Services (DTS)
Increasing availability using failover clustering
Work as part of a team providing 24x7 support when required
Interface with Microsoft for technical support
Expectation - at the completion of the project, support staff must be able to maintain the database and be able to provide knowledge of the implemented application
Expectation - throughout the implementation, documentation must be created and maintained that is specific to the solution implemented in this environment.
SQL Server DBA Skills and Abilities
Good understanding of the SQL database, related utilities and tools
A good understanding of the underlying operating system
A good knowledge of the physical database design
Ability to perform both SQL Database and operating system performance tuning and monitoring
Knowledge of SQL Database backup and recovery scenarios
A good knowledge of SQL Server Database security management
A good knowledge of how SQL Database acquires and manages resources
A good knowledge SQL Database data integrity
Sound knowledge of the implemented application systems
Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle
A sound knowledge of both database and system performance tuning
A DBA should have sound communication skills with management, development teams, vendors and systems administrators
Provide a strategic database direction for the organization
A DBA should have the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
A DBA should possess a sound understanding of the business
DBA should have the ability to lead and mentor, one on one, DBA's and co-workers or peers
