ITJOB-ALERT Database Administrator III

Position Summary
The incumbent must support the DBMS & all related software and share knowledge with other database administrators on the specialized procedures required to support all development and production databases. Provide technical direction on database and data warehouse design and administration. Prototype solutions and document the configuration and deployment process for advanced database solutions for use by DBA team. Individual must demonstrate initiative beyond directly assigned tasks, require minimal supervision, and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish objectives.

Technical Support for DBMS Environments
Provide technical support and perform Database Administration for all development and production databases on multiple hardware platforms. Provide technical guidance on database designs to the development community. Handle general problems on own authority and make sound judgments based on current information. Must be able to work as individual contributor & as a team player on day-to-day DBA tasks to add value to the team. Individual will provide on-call Production support and will participate in the On-Call roster.

Design and Build Database Environments
Work with system architects to create database designs that meet the company's business goals. Propose and implement best-in-class tools and practices to support business goals and future evolution of the company's databases. Perform the physical database design to ensure the data needs of the application systems satisfy the immediate and future requirements from Product Management in the most cost-effective manner. Ensure the effective physical utilization of computing resources by the DBMS in both the Test and Production environments on a day to day basis. Document all physical database designs. Responsible for planning and performing the installation, maintenance, system changes, and upgrades for the Oracle and open source (MySQL, Postgres) DBMS environments. Share Knowledge with Associates and assist users, peers, and management in the development of Business Cases for new systems or extensive system modifications. Assist in developing system estimates and schedules for new products and/or extensions to existing systems. Ensure a high quality of data integrity by controlling content and context through operational checks and balances.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

- Extensive industry experience (7 yrs) that include serving as a DBA in all facets of DBMS design, implementation, deployment, administration and maintenance, and project coordination.
- Five years or more of experience in database environments life cycle management and support of production and development environments.
- Oracle certification is preferred and must have expert level Oracle knowledge and experience.
- Extensive technical experience in the following: Oracle 10/11G, High Availability solutions, Data Warehousing, ETL processing, Production Operations & Support, and Security Administration.
- Experience with Oracle RAC and ASM a plus
- Two years experience with open source databases i.e. Postgres 8.3/8.4, MySQL 5.x.
- Experienced in database and disk system performance tuning.
- Must know shell programming, SQL, PERL.
- Five years experience working in Linux and Unix/Solaris environments
- MS Windows a plus.
- Self-motivated detail oriented and highly responsible. Capable of handling multiple complex assignments and taking on additional responsibilities as delegated.

EDUCATION

- B.S.C.S. or B.S.E.E., M.S.C.S. preferred.
- Oracle Certified preferred
