Summary
The leading provider of Data Center services in North America is seeking a System Engineer, to assist in the planning, design, implementation, organization and operation of the company's data communications network.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Analyzes the needs of the departments, clients and establishes priorities for network design and implementation to develop new and/or modify the company's networks and applications.
· Xands network environment is primarily Cisco-based including many of the following technologies/protocols: MPLS, Leased-lines, Frame-relay, ATM, VPN, ISDN, HSSI, PPP, STP, VLANs, Trunking, Etherchannel, HSRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, NAT, ACLs, DLSw+, SNMP, RMON, IP Multicasting, Layer 3 switching, and Wireless solutions.
· Monitoring and maintaining the hardware and software for the network infrastructure
· Infrastructure device upgrades or replacements
· Understanding protocol compatibility, performing system tuning, and making recommendations for improvement
· Researching the development of new technologies that may impact the network
· Development and implementation of best practices and procedures for networking
· Planning and documenting new product deployments and the associated network infrastructure changes
· Knowledge of capacity planning
· Cisco VoIP, QoS
· Knowledge of network security issues and methods for addressing them
· Ability to research, analyze and implement software patches or hardware changes
· Network Design, general network security, TCP/IP, a strong grasp of Internet networking practices and concepts, BGP/OSPF, VPNs and Cisco IOS and CatOS

· Strong working knowledge of packet sniffing technology and the ability to apply the knowledge quickly when troubleshooting a problem
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and employees
· Strong communication (both verbal and written) and customer service skills
· Ability to respond to frequent pressure to meet deadlines when work speed and sustained accuracy are paramount.
· Ability to respond to frequent demands of multiple customers (internal and external).
· Ability to provide off-hours operational support when necessary
· Experience in design and building application, routing, Firewall / VPN
· Experience in application with Cisco products with knowledge of debug
· Experience in work with ISP/Carrier.
· Experience in project development & evaluation at ISP/ Carrier / Vendor
