The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Information Technology Division is seeking a Web / Application Developer to join the Roadway Network System (RNS) team. The selected candidate will:

- Provide support for existing enterprise geospatial application
- Recommend operational support enhancements to improve efficiency & effectiveness of system
- Assist in analyzing business workflows and develop web technologies to solve problems
- Ensure all applications adhere to strict accuracy and quality specifications
- Follow existing and contribute to the development of creative and functional standards
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic, and professional environment

Experienced web developer who can creatively design, develop, implement, and maintain custom web applications as part of the software development life cycle in an enterprise environment; strong understanding of web services concepts; experience in working in a team environment with other developers; assist in the compilation of technical specifications and application support documentation; interface with internal business units in determining functional and usability requirements for managing, manipulating, and visualizing business and spatial data; ability to work effectively with others in a team environment to successfully deliver quality projects; capacity to communicate verbally and in written form thoughts, ideas, and information of a technical nature in a logical, organized, and coherent manner; ability to produce consistent, predictable, and reliable work products that meet deadlines; knowledge of transportation industry standards and practices, and experience in ESRI ArcGIS software is a plus; Bachelor or higher degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, or similar.

Position: Data Architect

Job Description/Scope of Work to Be Performed:

Duties include working with engineering, design, and regulatory oversight teams to implement Internet and application proxy solutions using both vendor and in-house developed solutions. Candidates should have strong networking and/or Unix OS system administration background; experience as a member of project team responsible for testing, deployment, and troubleshooting of large network and proxy solutions working in a global enterprise; able to make and take responsibility for decisions that incorporate corporate policy, information security standards, and technology best practices. Experience in BlueCoat proxy platforms is specifically required.

In addition, engineers are required to analyze customer requirements to ensure all standards, policies and guidelines are upheld from the information security perspective and support routine compliance activities. Eventually, engineers need to support technology improvements, such as new infrastructure install and hardware/software upgrades, and engineering support.

Skills Required:

Education requirements include: Bachelor's degree in electronics or computer science; technology and/or information security certifications, such as CISSP are desirable; strong networking and/or Unix OS system administration background. Experience in proxy platforms is specifically required, Blue Coat Systems proxy experience and certification holders are preferred.

Also desired is a strong analytical and quantitative capability with attention to detail ability to work in a demanding and environment, exhibiting a high degree of flexibility and ability to multi-task, seeking guidance where necessary. A team-player mentality, comfortable working with business and technology customers, and very strong verbal and written communications skills are also desired.
