Job Description
Operations DBA with DB2
The Sr. Infrastructure DBA employs deep technical expertise to the design, implementation, testing, and ongoing support of the CMIPS II database infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities
Installs, patches, and configures DB2 database software in an AIX environment, and Oracle on Linux.
Supports database deployment and migration activities; executes backups and restores.
Troubleshoots and resolves database issues across development, testing, and production environments.
Designs, develops, tests, and implements database tools, including:
Backup/Recovery solutions
Security and Encryption
Data Archival
Data Masking and Subsetting
Develops scripts to automate systems administration, monitoring, and reporting activities.
Monitors and analyzes database performance and resource utilization across multiple databases for Curam, AMS Advantage, Business Objects and other databases across 20+ virtual servers (AIX LPARs) to ensure system availability, develop CPU/Memory/Storage capacity projections and improve operational efficiency.
Works with CMIPS II Sr. Systems Engineer and Architect on issues related to DB2 infrastructure architecture, design, and capacity; and assists with Proof Of Concept testing.
Works with peers within and beyond the Operations team to define and characterize complex technology or process problems and develop & implement new solutions.
Develops Operations processes/procedures, white papers, proposals, and other documentation.
With Applications DBA:
Designs database environments and components.
Produces and maintains logical and physical data models for databases and projects.
Required Experience & Skills
5-7 years of DB2 (9.1 and higher) Administration experience in a large production UNIX environment, preferably with AIX 6.x/Power 6 Architecture.
3-5 years of Oracle Administration experience, preferably with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Experience with Backup/Recovery, Security & Encryption, Data Archival, and Data masking & Subsetting solutions, preferably with the IBM Optim suite of products.
Experience working with third party service providers such as vendors and internal support groups.
Excellent troubleshooting and root cause-analysis skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment in driving technical problems to resolution.
Ability to plan and implement change for Enterprise systems, adhering to standard change management processes
Excellent UNIX scripting skills.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to mentor other team members in areas of technical expertise.
Desired Experience & Skills
Strong working knowledge of middleware technologies, preferably WebSphere and Business Objects.
Familiarity with Curam Enterprise framework v3
3-5 years of experience working in an outsourced/managed services environment.
Experience with SDLC and/or other systems development methodologies.
Experience in a customer-facing role on an outsourced/managed services project.
Tivoli Storage Manager, EMC Networker backup, or equivalent technologies and platforms.
Experience developing project plans and work breakdown structures.
