Application Developer (VB .Net), Office of Instructional and Information Technology
General Description and Goals: The Application Developer will work with the Application Development & Integration Team to provide technical leadership and support in the areas of analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of new and existing web based applications.
The Application Developers primary function is to gather requirements, design, build, and implement integrated applications to include and not be limited to online applications, dynamic database-driven applications, SQL-based reporting solutions, and other Web-enabled applications. The Application Developer is expected to quickly become proficient with the skills and toolsets in use at the Office of Instructional and Information Technology (OIIT). This position requires strong problem solving skills, web development skills, and solid verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities Include:
? Consult with end users to investigate and determine problems, specify proposed solutions, and code applications.
? Conduct performance analysis of new and/or upgraded systems.
? Design, develop, test and maintain application systems.
? Develop and maintain documentation for BPS application systems.
? Develop web-enabled applications as they relate to improving the existing web infrastructure and integration to new system
? Create dynamic reporting solutions using the business intelligence toolset and MS SQL Reporting Services.
? Collaborate with developers on new technologies to improve development environment.
? Assist with client requests
? Design, create, maintain relational databases as needed for application development
? Program stored procedures, SQL queries, views, triggers, and SQL functions as necessary
? Support nightly batch processing (DTS and SSIS) packages
Qualifications:
Education:
A. Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Systems {preferred} or
B. 3+ years work experience in application development
Experience:
A. 3+ years experience working with VB.Net 1.1 and 2.0, 3.5
B. 3+ years experience programming and querying SQL relational databases (SQL 2000, 2005, 2008)
C. Expertise with Object Oriented programming techniques
D. Experience with VB 6.0, Classic ASP, and Reporting Services a plus.
E. Strong organizational and communication skills.
F. Ability to multi-task, collaborate and work effectively within a team environment.
G. Educational experience a plus.
