Job Description/Responsibilities:
This position is for a software engineer to develop display software for Caterpillar machine and engine applications. The responsibility for this position will include, but is not limited to: working with a multi-functional team to define software requirements and specifications; defining, implementing, and testing software architecture and designs; defining test plans and test specifications; building and releasing software products; and assisting in the integration of display software into Caterpillar machine applications.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Good planning, analytical, initiative, communication, customer focus, and teamwork skills.
- Minimum of 2 years experience developing software for Windows based platforms using C, C++, VC++, Windows SDK, and .NET framework.
- In-depth knowledge of Windows based embedded architecture and software development concepts.
- Experience using software emulator/simulator/debugging and configuration management tools.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Understanding of Objected Oriented Design concepts.
- Experience in device driver, BSP, Kernel, memory/file system management, and graphics UI development.
- Strong knowledge of data link protocols such as J1939.
- Experience with Git configuration management tool.
- Experience developing software for Linux based platforms.
- Experienced and highly knowledgeable of Microsoft Office applications.
- Basic ability to read and understand electronic schematics.

Job Description:
This job will be an agency / contract Software Development Engineer position within Caterpillar Electronics. This position will be physically located in Peoria/Mossville. Cat Electronics provides electronic systems and components for motion and power control solutions. This position will be a Software Development Engineer for on-board (on-machine) Advanced Monitoring and Diagnostics Systems for Machine and large engines applications. The system will operate in real-time on large mining machines, including off-highway mining and construction trucks, wheel loaders, motorgraders, and scrapers.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering or equivalent.
- 3 to 5 years of experience developing embedded software.
- Ability to work in a team environment, communicating technical information and development progress to team members and others
- Linux Kernel Development / Debugging
- Proficient coding in C++
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
Highly Desired:
- Linux driver development
- Custom communications protocol development experience (ie. TCP/IP, RS232/RS485)
- Automated testing and script development
- XMPP development experience
- Proficient using Clearcase and/or GIT
- Microsoft Visual C++ IDE
- Experience with machine health/monitoring systems.
Additional experience and knowledge of tools:
- GCC compiler
- Rhapsody in C++
- OpenOCD and GDB
