Job Title:                    SQL Server Admin

Location:                    Madison, WI

Duration:                    6 months

 

A SQL Server DBA, coordinates physical changes to computer databases implements and tests physical database parameters, applying knowledge of database management system. Designs logical and physical databases, reviews description of changes to database design to understand how changes to be made affect physical database (how data is stored in terms of physical characteristics, such as location, amount of space, indexing and access method). Establishes physical database parameters. Works with technical staff to create standards for coding database applications and queries. Calculates optimum values for database parameters, such as amount of computer memory to be used by database, following manuals and using calculator. Specifies user access level for each segment of one or more data items, such as insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data. Specifies which users can access databases and what data can be accessed by user. Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database.
Reviews and corrects programs. Confers with coworkers to determine impact of database changes on other systems and staff cost for making changes to database. Monitors and modifies database indexes and queries to increase processing performance, referred to as performance tuning. The DBA will specialize in SQL Server and knowledge or Oracle would be a plus. Will train and transfer knowledge to state technical staff. Will provide regular SQL Server status updates and confer on best practices with IT management.
Database Administrator capabilities with 8 or more years of experience, relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, independently performs a variety of complicated tasks, a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

The ideal candidate will be a senior level DBA with SQL Server 2008 experience in a data warehouse environment. Part of DPI's data warehouse resides in Oracle 11g and experience with Oracle would be helpful.

• Experience developing medium- to large-scale solutions

• Familiarity with build / deployment tools (Ant, Maven)

• Bachelor's degree with one year of professional experience in Java web application development; or equivalent combination of training and experience

Note: All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions

 

Preferred

• Direct experience with jBPM

• Familiarity with data warehousing data structures and concepts (OLAP cubes)

• Experience or familiarity with system integration via Portal solutions (JBoss, Websphere, or custom)
