Description of Work to Be Performed and the Specific Skill Sets Needed:
Client has created a process that will migrate the data entry screens and the database tables (fields with definitions) from their Access environment to a VB .Net /SQL Server environment. This "migration process" comes in the form of scripts that are run to elevate/migrate the original Access input to an elevate platform of VB .Net / SQL Server output. When the scripts are run there will be unanticipated errors that will need to be dealt with on the fly – for this reason the contractor involved in the engagement will need to be skilled enough to properly utilize the tools (listed in the sections that follow) to be able to troubleshoot and to make necessary adjusts as needed.
The personnel acting as the consultant(s) for this engagement will need to be familiar and skilled with the following tools:
Microsoft Access 97 and up
Visual Studio 2005
VB.Net 2005
SQL Server 2005
Crystal Reports
List of Deliverables, e.g. what the consultant(s) will be expected to accomplish:
The scope of the project is to migrate these Access Databases to a VB .Net / SQL Server platform utilizing the scripts provided and to document any errors and/or adjustments that were made during that process. The involved Access databases will not be cleaned up or enhanced prior to migration. This is designated as a "garbage in, garbage out" migration. Once the databases have been migrated and documented the project is considered complete. All other processes such as the "clean up", future enhancements of the newly migrated databases will be considered outside the scope of this project.
· Migrated database
· VB .Net Screens (Windows forms)
· Documentation of any issues or errors encountered during the migration process.
· Reports re-created in Crystal Reports as needed
Impact/Outcome from a Business Perspective
The impact and outcome for the Lines of Business will be enhanced IT support, increased reliability of the databases and ease of the enhancements
- increasing the reliability and usability of the application for staff that use the database(s)
- IT support will be available to staff in the event they incur difficulty with the application or determine a need for enhancements
the databases will be able to be migrated to a Web platform if/when that is determined to be advantageous to the business.
