Position : SAN Architect

Location : Lower Manhattan, NYC

Duration : Long Term

 

 

 

 

Job Description:

a. Review and update the Research/TSG SLA to address resiliency and more clearly define data recovery options.

b. Configure SAN file servers to be capable of accessing large storage partitions, i.e. greater than 8 TB.

c. Put in place a configuration that allows for portions of the SAN that become critical to business processes to be provided with greater resiliency on an as needed basis; this can be accomplished by enabling data replication or transferring data to a replicated storage system.

d. The Research SAN configuration should be reviewed and modified. Options include:

i. The current configuration employing one file server as the mount point for all Research SAN data with a second server available as a warm standby should be modified to employ the second server in a production mode, handling a portion of the mount points.

ii. Consider use of hot/hot cluster instead of hot/standby

iii. Permit additional direct server connections to the Research SAN, e.g. for systems such as the Network HPC that are the primary users of a partition.

e. Continuous monitoring and backup validation.

 

 Required Skills:

• Familiar with all storage systems and backup environments.

• Interpreting of storage protocols including ISCSI, Fiber Channel, CIFS, NFS, NDMP protocols and hardware, which uses these protocols.

• Capability of installation, set up and maintenance of backup environment, backup software and work along with Sr. storage engineer to keep SAN environment.

• Understanding routing principles, design of consistent network-wide file system layouts and client/server programming, a capability to program in an administrative language.

• Knowledge of distributed/networking computing environmental concepts

• Familiar with replication to remote DC / FCoIP, converged networks

 

Education/Certifications:

• B.S Computer Hardware Engineering

• 3-5 years of professional experience in hardware engineering and design
