Manager, Software Engineering Responsibilities

• Responsible and accountable for all technical aspects of development for a new product within the Healthcare & Science business.
• Lead a team of 5-15 software engineers, quality assurance engineers and business analysts to achieve success in design, development and deployment activities.
• Plan, coordinate and deliver all product releases on-time, on-scope and on-budget.
• Acquire and maintain expert-level knowledge of all product functionality.
• Provide technical direction for product development activities in conjunction with technical architects or technical leads. Create and review technical deliverables.
• Mentor and challenge software engineers and other team members.
• Adhere to product engineering methodology while working collaboratively with a variety of functional teams (quality assurance, configuration management, product management, product support, project management).
• Transform business requirements into comprehensive solutions using the appropriate methods, tools and technologies.
• Identify and act on opportunities to improve the performance of the development team. Requirements
• 8 - 10 years of practical experience building web applications using Java/J2EE technologies.
• 3+ years of practical experience as a manager or team lead with a demonstrated ability to drive a technical team to high quality, on-time completion of design and development activities. Experience must include software project management, technical leadership and personnel management responsibilities.
• Outstanding communication skills (oral, written and presentation) and strong interpersonal skills.
• Must be driven and eager, with an ability and willingness to learn and implement new technologies and software development techniques.
• Experience with all phases of the software development life cycle (requirements, design, development, testing, deployment, support).
• Experience with agile/lean development methodologies preferred.
• Ability to mentor and motivate junior engineers.
• Ability to accurately estimate and plan application development tasks.
• Must be well versed in relational database concepts such as data warehousing, analytical application functions, OLAP technology and tools (Oracle 10g experience a plus)
• Experience with business intelligence tools such as Cognos or Business Objects a plus.
• Healthcare industry experience is a plus.
• BS or MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
