Job Title: IT Infrastructure Specialist
Duties: Symantec Managed Services is currently seeking a Senior Fault and Linux Engineer for their Managed Security Services business unit. The candidate will play a critical role in system and application administration of our technical environment. The Linux Engineer will be part of highly experienced team, and be provided new challenges on a daily basis. The purpose of this team is to maintain Linux-based Servers, both hardware and software. The team is also responsible for the management of in-house developed applications that run on the Linux systems as well as our Netcool and Zenoss fault monitoring systems.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
• Performing daily administration of all Linux systems from a hardware and software perspective;
• Performing daily administration of Netcool and Zenoss applications;
• Performing daily administration of in-house developed applications running on the Linux systems;
• Continuous improvement to the monitoring of complex backend systems
• Responding to operation requests for enhancements and creation of new alarms
• Utilizing a problem management tool to track open tickets and follow up to resolution and closure;
• Keeping your Manager or Team Lead informed of status and raising issues as appropriate;
• Anticipates and interprets business/customer needs, assesses requirements, and identifies solutions.
• Provide analysis and recommendations pertaining to server optimization and enhancements in order to improve performance, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.
• Provide daily support and accept accountability for the performance and reliability of various cross-platform applications and services, and ensure that system failures are restored in a timely manner,
measured against SLAs.
• Provide root-cause analysis, contribute to the knowledge base, and provide recommendations for continuous improvements to workflow, process, and technology.
• Establish and maintain working relationships within Infrastructure, Operations, Product Development teams, vendors and contractors.
• Be able to work independently and come up to speed quickly on new technologies.
• Executing special projects or other related duties as required
Skills:
• Installed, configured and deployed one or more of the following IBM/Netcool suite of applications
o Object server
o Impact
o Probes
o In-depth knowledge (4-7 years) of Linux (Centos and/or Redhat) administration and multi-tier application production operations.
o Experience with Linux performance monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting, and security hardening.
o Strong knowledge of Apache, LDAP, BIND, SQL, SNMP, and Linux system security.
o Strong scripting (Shell, Python, PHP, or Perl) skills a must.
o System monitoring (Zenoss, Netcool etc).
o Database experience is a plus
o Demonstrated strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
o Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
o Must be proactive, able to work with little to no supervision, detailed orientated and possess a strong work ethic.
o Providing on-call support for a 24X7 production environment (on-call compensation provided);
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
o Able to learn and master new technology quickly and improve personal performance through continual self-study;
o Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously;
o Strong interpersonal and team relationship skills and able to work well individually or as part of a team;
o Must have excellent problem solving, analytical, and time management skills;
o Ability to work effectively with internal development and business units;
o Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment.
o Extensive hands-on hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
o Strong desire to learn and grow technically and professionally.
