Position: Application Architect

Location: Portsmouth, NH.

Duration: 6 months.

Job Description:

Develop overall solutions and high level design of applications to meet business needs and align with IT standards. Provide direction and support to the development team on all technology and processes needed construct and maintain applications. Facilitate architecture reviews and approvals. Support the development of business unit roadmaps.

 

Required Skills:

·         Experienced in object-oriented analysis and design

·         Working knowledge of various modeling standards and tools e.g. Standards - BPML, UML, IDEF1X Tools - ERWin, Model Mart, Rational Rose & Rational Software Architect

·         Experience with a variety of technologies including Microsoft Technologies (.NET, VB.NET, C#, ASP.NET, MVC), Oracle (10g/11g), SQL Server (2005/2008), Web services, WCF, LINQ, SOAP, XML, AJAX, SQL, PL/SQL, web development technologies, interface technologies, and data movement/analysis tools.

·         Strong communication, influence and negotiation skills

·         Ability to self prioritize work effectively

·         Familiarity with the standards and best practices bodies

·         Functional Competencies:

·         Expertise in IT standards and best practices

·         Technical expertise

 

Preferred Skills:

·         Working knowledge of business process re-engineering

·         Experience with legacy and new computing architectures

·         Experience with ITIL

·         Experience with managing service providers

·         Familiarity with the Energy Industry i.e. FERC and PUC

 

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

·         Bachelor's Degree in a technical (Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline) or business field required

·         10+ years in IT

·         Experience .NET, VB-6, SQL 2008 web services, web development language

Scope of Work:

• Develop and collaborate on design solutions of Retail Services System (RSS) application

·         Contribute to business requirements and business process design

·         Develop and maintain high level application design

·         Specify infrastructure needed to meet all technical application requirements

·         Establish use of software development lifecycle best practices and standards

·         Evaluate feasibility of technology solutions to meet business needs

·         Work with various teams to develop architecture deliverables and conduct architecture reviews

·         Identify, track and report technology risks associated with the application

·         Mentor and direct IT development team members

·         Use influence and negotiation skills to gain consensus for recommendations

·         Communicate clearly and effectively with business and IT management on a variety of topics

• Keep abreast of industry trends and best practices and effectively apply them to the NiSource
• Facilitate architecture reviews and approvals
• Identify, track and report technology risks associated with application
• Collaborate with NiSource Corporate IT to ensure compliance and compatibility Corporate standards and infrastructure

·         Multi-year technical RSS roadmap aligned with business plans

·         Highly available, reliable, maintainable, scalable and secure applications

·         Applications meets all business operational needs
