Here is a summary of what they are looking for. Hope this helps: In
the short term, we need an engineer to address technical challenges of
rewriting a web scraper. The solution we currently have is not
adequate for the long term, and needs a complete rewrite in a new
language that's tailored for this kind of work. We need the candidate
to be familiar with spidering techniques and best practices so that we
can begin implementation immediately. The ideal candidate should not
require much training, only some guidance on what the requirements and
specifications will be for the next iteration of the web scraper.
Communication and soft skills are not a strict requirement, but are
necessary. We cannot afford to waste any time due to any
communication issues. Excel skills are not an immediate requirement
either, but are preferred. In the longer term, we need someone who is
has the technical skills to address the aforementioned issues, but
also have a deep desire to understand the business impact of our
pricing tools. As such, the ideal long term candidate is a tremendous
communicator, possesses strong soft skills, intermediate excel skills,
is extremely analytical, and is an outside the box thinker. If we
have a candidate who could be a long term fit, I will be testing
outside the box thinking extensively in the interview process, because
the nature of our team is such that we generally don't have clear
paths to our solutions, and we really must be creative enough to craft
all solutions to address our needs. The demands of this position are
extremely high for the long term, and the candidate must be equipped
to handle all of them. Despite the increase emphasis on technical and
soft skills, the key thing in mind when hiring any permanent employee
is team fit. Without cohesive team fit, all the skills in the world
are rendered virtually meaningless
