Job Description:
Looking for a Web Sphere Application Server (WAS) administrator, who will be responsible for enhancing and maintaining various WAS and ESB environments used by the Provisioning Systems team within Verizon Wireless. This role will also be responsible for the following tasks for the platforms hosting the MTAS (Mobile Telephone Activation System) UI, MTAS Gateway and Guarded Link web applications - day-to-day administration operations, performance tuning, capacity planning and application monitoring.
Responsibilities:
• Administer and support various production and non-production environments utilizing the following Web Sphere suite of
products – Web Sphere Application Server, Web Sphere MQ, Web Sphere Message Broker, Data Power, Web Sphere
Service Registry and Repository
• Set up application performance monitoring using CA Wily Introscope and other APM tools and perform performance
tuning, problem investigation and resolution in coordination with the development and support teams
• Evaluate, install, upgrade, configure and maintain middleware components to support the Provisioning Systems
applications
• Script routinely executed production tasks for these environments and automate execution where possible
• Create necessary documentation to build, administer, and support all environments
• Create and maintain support documentation for on-call and support personnel to monitor and troubleshoot production
issues
• Manage own time and time of others while working in coordination with various teams like database administrators, system
administrators, network administrators and other IT teams
• Provide on-call support as required.
Requirements:
• Advanced knowledge of and experience with Web Sphere Application Server ND 6.x or higher required
• Good understanding of web server load balancing concepts and experience with highly available distributed environments
• Experience and/or knowledge of CA Wily Introscope, Site minder and Jython scripting
• Thorough understanding of Java/J2EE concepts (JDBC, JMS/MQ, JSP, JNDI, etc) is required
• Web Sphere MQ 6.0/7.0 working knowledge highly preferred
• Experience with Web Sphere MQ 6/7, Web Sphere Message Broker 7.0, Data Power and Web Services Registry and
Repository 7.0 preferred, but not required
• Experience with Oracle database 10g/11g
• Experience with working on UNIX platforms and good UNIX scripting skills
• Good time management, documentation and communication skills
