Position Consultant
My client is currently seeking a ETL developer consultant to help implement the data loading, processing and transformations for our various data warehouse environments. The ETL developer is responsible for implementing source-to-target mapping specifications for the data warehouse, data marts, and operational data stores; producing code for our ETL framework; developing and implementing unit test scripts as part of test-driven designs; maintenance and production support activities. This position offers the unique opportunity to be part of a professional, experienced team creating central resources for the University as we expand our content and services.

As a member of the ETL development team in DSS, the ETL developer is a data warehouse professional responsible for helping to articulate standards and consistency, and provides process development, programming, consultation, maintenance and support for the EDW.

Position Complexities:
The unique emphasis and focus of DSS is the "global view" of UW institutional data and metrics, and the supporting our client's and BI architecture and tools. The ETL developer is expected to collaborate easily and effectively with other Decision Support Services team members and various project team partners across the University.

Position Dimensions and Impact:
The constituency of Information Management (IM), and therefore that of this position, is the entire University, including all campuses.  Technical scope requires knowledge of warehousing systems, expertise with ETL tools and processes, and database management. Task complexity includes data warehouses and specialized tools, distributed services and applications, and mainframe applications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Define and implement technical solutions in support of DW development
*Participate in defining, then implement, new data warehouse architecture.
*Contribute to ETL framework design and implementation.
*Produce ETL code for data warehouse projects.
*Define and implement automated load validations that help to identify load issues as early as possible.
*Define acceptable performance benchmarks for a variety of activities, including ad-hoc queries, and data extracts; includes technical solutions for enforcing them.

2. Maintenance and Production Support
*Perform production support responsibilities for the data warehouse and BI environments.
*Perform system maintenance tasks, including source system reorganizations.
*Investigate incidents and respond to user inquiries.
*Set up performance monitoring and administration practices, and help coordinate those with DSS and matrixed team members (DBAs, engineering and storage services).

3. Testing and Quality Assurance Support
*Participate in test-driven design and implementations.
*Develop unit and other test scripts.
*Conduct testing, particularly unit and system testing.
*Assist test lead in interpretation of test results. 


Requirements:

·  Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Management or related field; or equivalent experience.

·  Minimum 4 years experience in Data warehouse development, business intelligence, database administration, software development. 

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

Desired:

·  Strong background and experience in ETL processing, design, planning, testing and production implementations in a large database environment.

·  Advanced practical experience with software development lifecycle methods and processes.

·  Advanced practical experience with data warehouse industry standards, data modeling techniques.

·  Strong programming skills in a variety of languages, including, T-SQL, HTML, XML.

·  Strong experience with SSIS.

·  Familiarity with MS Analysis and Reporting Services

·  Experience with multiple business subject areas, i.e., HR, Financial, Purchasing, Student, etc.

·  Excellent communication and collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders and partners.

·  Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. 

·  Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to meet business needs.

·  Ability to train, mentor, and guide others to learn complex technical skills.

·  Tool friendly and team player attitudes.
