Position: SAP BW Architect
Location: Jackson, MI
Duration: 6 months
The SAP BW Architect will provide functional, technical and architectural leadership and play an important role in evaluating and improving the design of our existing and planned SAP Business Warehouse (BW)/Business Objects (BOBJ) / Business Intelligence (BI) systems. In addition, the BW Architect will have responsibility for identifying improvement opportunities. The BW Architect establishes and maintains strong partnership with internal functional and development teams, business managers, project managers and analysts to understand and prioritize their reporting needs and ensures any changes to the technical landscape conforms to our enterprise architectural standards and conforms to SAP BW and BOBJ best practices. The SAP BW architect will conduct gate reviews for projects and major enhancements to ensure quality designs. Finally, the SAP BW Architect will mentor company employees to help strengthen their technical skills.
The Candidate should have excellent analytical and development skills. The Candidate must possess excellent teamwork skills as well as the capacity to complete assignments on their own. Candidates must be able to effectively interact with the client business community to gather/develop functional requirements and translate the requirements into robust analytics and reporting solutions. Candidates must have a strong understanding of dimensional modeling and data warehousing concepts and methodologies and have experience leading full-lifecycle SAP Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing projects.
Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree
· Experience architecting, developing and implementing SAP BW business reporting systems/solutions.
· Architecting background on at least two full life cycle SAP BW Implementations for medium to large projects of high complexity.
· Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse requirements gathering and the ability to translate business requirements to technical requirements.
· Data warehouse modeling and implementation using best practice approaches.
· Strong understanding and experience with at least one front-end reporting and analytical tool (Business Objects InfoView/Webi desired).
· Communication skills: strong presentation, communication and facilitation skills (oral and written).
· Project management experience
· Ability to work with all levels of employee groups.
· Great mentoring skills.
· Must have strong experience/skills in tuning DataWarehouse objects in a SAP BI environment.
· Experience with HANA and Business Objects 4 is preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
· Help develop and maintain the overall technical architecture and standards for SAP Business information Warehouse, and Business Objects BI platform.
· Assess and guide BI performance optimization efforts.
· Contribute towards evolving company's analytical self-service/ad hoc reporting capabilities.
· Prepare appropriate documentation and ensure that new functionality is properly transitioned to the support organization.
· Develop quick prototypes in various BI tools for capability assessment and demonstration.
· Accurately estimate work efforts and time estimates.
· Contribute to development and management of work plans.
· Work with business partners and internal groups on resolving platform production defects or performance issues.
· Ensure BI Solution Architecture, Stability and Sustainability.
· Coach Business Relationship Managers(BRMs) and Developers in requirements gathering, solution design best practices, leveraging all available tools
· Propose optimal ways to address business demands (trouble tickets, new requirements, etc.) for B I with a goal for delivering maximum overall value for their BI investment.
· Evangelize BI within the Business User Community with an objective to better leverage existing BI solutions and position BI for appropriate future needs.
· Participate and develop BI landscape strategy including optimal setup to support multiple/parallel project deliverables.
· Participate in release planning
· Develop ongoing methods to deliver BI governance metrics (i.e. usage, memory, space, queries, etc.)
· Evangelize BI and Business Objects future release functionality and offerings and help develop technology roadmap with consideration to ongoing/future project work.
Technical Skills needed:
· Mastery level of knowledge with SAP BW configuration of BW data objects including:
Transformations, Start/End Routines, Partitioning, APDs, MDX.
· Mastery level of BW Extractors from the ECC system and working knowledge of SAP structures, object dependencies and tables.
· Mastery level of BOBJ Universes (ROLAP/MOLAP) and InfoView/Webi, with a good working knowledge of Crystal reports and Xcelcius.
· Working knowledge of interfacing SAP BW to other SAP products, such as BPC, PPM or CRM
· Strong understanding of ECC, end-to-end data flows and interaction of data from one ECC module with other systems (i.e. CRM, PPM, etc.)
· BW excel-based reporting design and development
· BW web reporting and web cockpit design and development
· The following skill sets would be a plus:
o BW system upgrade experience
o BW integration with SAP Portals/Netweaver
o Master Data Management (MDM)
o Custom ABAP development experience
o Web Services development experience with BW
o Experience with other Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing ETL and OLAP technologies
o SAP functional experience.
o Background or experience in Business Analytics
