Role: Unix Engineer

Location: NYC

Duration: 3-6 months contract to hire

Type: Contract to hire - GC and US citizens only

Rate during Contract: 50/hr All Inclusive

Salary on conversion: 105K (base) + fully paid benefits + tuition reimbursement

 

o    Unix Administration

o    Strong scripting experience

o    Linux Red Hat experience

o    Puppet (DESIRED)

 

Senior Unix System Engineer

·         We are seeking a senior multi-skilled Unix System Engineer.

·         This contract system engineer will be responsible for working with system administrators who support Unix and Windows.  

·         They will be responsible for the completion of work assigned in a timely manner and ensure that project work is correctly resourced and meeting scheduling requirements.  

·         They are required to handle off-hour coverage of the infrastructure and respond to automated alerts for hard/software application issues in a 7X24X365 environment.    

 

Requirements/Expectations

·         The position requires a background in the design and implementation of configuration methodologies and industry standard build/maintenance processes for the improved management of a complex Unix and Windows infrastructure that supports University core and critical applications.  

·         Some proven experience in project management is needed.

·         The candidate should have experience in being able to break down large-scale processes into manageable tasks.  

·         Expected to demonstrate expertise in Linux Red Hat and Windows Server.  

·         Must be conversant in a scripting language – preferably Perl.  

·         Experience with VMWare ESXi and VCenter necessary.

·         Should have familiarity with AD, Citrix, Kerberos, LDAP, NFS, SAN, and networking concepts including load balancing.  

·         Experience with centralized configuration management tools and virtualized methodologies.

·         Experience in a multi-faceted virtual environment with proven skills to handle complex problems as they arise and use sophisticated engineering concepts to properly design, configure and manage the underlying Unix/Windows technology for a large enterprise application infrastructure.

·         Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science or Engineering preferred)

·         Broad knowledge of Unix operating systems, design, development, and management of system support processes

·         Some experience with Windows systems needed

·         At least 6 years of system administration experience

·         Proven technology leader
