Staff Orange is looking for Unix Systems Administrator for its implementation partner

 

Title: Unix Systems Administrator

Location:   Arden Hills, MN

Duration :  6+ months

Rate: $45/Hr   

 

Job Specific Information

Functions as a member of the Information Systems Global Infrastructure team managing and supporting Unix/Linux servers to ensure the highest level of performance and availability in a 24X7 environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

- Performs installation, testing, upgrading (both software and hardware) and retirement of server equipment.

- Works with storage teams in the allocation, configuration, mapping and migration of disk storage.

- Interacts with users and other IS teams to accommodate requests for server equipment services (data storage, applications).

- Performs troubleshooting and resolves server equipment failures by analyzing issues and implementing corrective actions. Participates in root cause analysis and takes measures to address root cause analysis findings.

- Maintains validated server equipment documentation, performs tuning of performance, installs server equipment software and allocates storage space.

- Effectively communicates project status, escalates project issues in a timely manner and meets project deadlines.

Job Scope and Leveling Guidelines

 

Knowledge

A developing professional. Working knowledge and application of business concepts, procedures and practices. General knowledge of industry practices, techniques, and standards. General understanding of business unit/group function. Applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Has a general knowledge of alternatives and an understanding of their impact on the business unit.

 

Planning and Organization

Plans, organizes, and prioritizes own daily work routine to meet established schedule.

 

Discretion/Latitude; Supervision Received; Decision Making Works under general supervision regarding the direction and progress of projects and special assignments. Receives limited instruction on standard issues, and detailed instructions on new assignments. Follows standard procedures requiring some interpretation of established policies, procedures and practices. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.

 

Business Relationships and Project Management Cultivates a wide range of internal business relationships and begins to develop an external network of resources to facilitate completion of tasks. May lead a project team of small to moderate scope. Influence exerted at peer level and occasionally at first levels of management.

 

Impact

Contributes to the completion of departmental projects and goals. Errors in judgment or failure to achieve results would normally require a moderate expenditure of resources to rectify.

 

Experience

Must have 3-5 years experience as a Unix systems administrator. Should have 2-4 years of experience maintaining IBM AIX systems. Should have experience with IBM NIM infrastructure and installing and maintaining AIX images for LPARs. Should have experience with IBM Virtual I/O Servers. Should have experience with IBM Logical Volume Manager (LVM). Should have experience patching the operating system and firmware. Should have an understanding of creating and managing file systems and mapping to storage LUNs.

 

Additional

IBM AIX, IBM Virtual I/O Servers, IBM Logical Volume Manager (LVM), IBM NIM, patching the operating system and firmware, creating and managing file systems and mapping to storage LUNs.

 

Additional Job Specific Requirements:

Some work outside of normal business hours on evenings and weekends would be required to accommodate the migration of storage between Unix systems
